Utah's Treasurer has announced $37.6 million dollars in additional unclaimed property. About 197,000 in new unclaimed property listings have been added to the state database, from the last filing deadline of Nov. 1, 2015.

Dennis Johnston, administrator of Utah's unclaimed property division, says the funds can be anything from money in a forgotten bank account to a utility deposit that was never reclaimed.

State Treasurer David Damschen said it can be a challenge to get the word out to Utahns about the system and encouraging people to search on the website. Even though various outreach campaigns have led to more claims being paid out, Damschen says most of the funds are unclaimed.

"If you search the system I guarantee you will find a family member or friend that we have money for," he said.

Residents can go to the website mycash.utah.gov or call 801-715-3300 to search for property or make a claim.
